Welcome to the blog of the Centre for Eighteenth Century Studies (CECS) at the University of York.
From day-to-day chatter, news items, and convivial discussions, our blog reflects research interests of the Centre’s staff and postgraduate students. Posts relate to all aspects of the eighteenth century from literature to art, history to archaeology, and aim to stimulate further discussions.
The Centre was founded in 1997, and in 1998 moved into its present home – a group of fifteenth- and sixteenth-century rooms in the historic King’s Manor, in the centre of the city of York. Since its foundation, the Centre has come to be recognised as a leading centre in the English-speaking world for interdisciplinary research in the eighteenth century.
